for everyone
Just a short note to let everyone know that Allen got to come home last night. He's doing great. Doctor seemed to want to keep him in there forever. He had the operation on the 6th. And I understand they might would keep him a little longer because of the infection he had earlier, but this was a little ridiculous.

Allen called me yesterday and said I think I might get to come home today. We got there at 1:30 pm and the doctor hadn't been in. We were hoping that he was in surgery and just didn't have time to get there, but the later it got, we thought he had forgotten him. :) So we sat there and sat there and about fell asleep. lol. It was about 5:30 pm and the nurse came in and said the doctor had called and he would probably be in surgery until 8:30 pm and he didn't want Allen to wait all night. Thank you very much. Well, we finally got everything finalized about and hour later and we were headed for home. What a relief. Allen was fit to be tied, being in the hospital for 6 days and he felt wonderful.

So we get to join the real world at last. Of course he can now put his weight on that knee now, and it's going to be much easier on both of us. :)

I wanted to thank you for all your prayers! You're the best!

for everyone
Allen thought he would get to come home today but because he's been nauseous and not been able to hold some food down, they postponed his release until tomorrow. He's doing pretty good for what he had going on. Home health will be coming by the house to do his picc (antibiotic) and whatever that intakes. I don't know how long they'll be coming, but at one point, they'll "try" and show me what to do and I'll take over from there. I do have a friend from church who's husband had something similar to this, and she knows how to do it, and said that she'd come by too. Our pastor's wife is also an RN and she is always willing to help. I think they'll be charging us 20 dollars a whack and that will add up after having to do this for about 6 weeks. So I've gotta be strong, lol, and learn how to do this. I really wouldn't have to stick him or anything, the IV thingy stays in at all times. It's just that I would wonder if I were doing it right most of the time.

A little insight into Allen.....Allen loves to talk and visit with people. Before you know it, you know his whole life story. I've caught him calling businesses to ask prices on certain items etc. and talking to who I know must be a receptionist, going through everything, measurements, prices, etc. and then of course, they transfer you to the right people. Gets him frustrated. I've tried to teach him, lol, that you need to wait because usually the first one to answer a phone is not the one you need to talk to. He's hard headed, sometimes he'll wait and other times you get the whole story first. Which brings me to this....he'll have a nurse come in, and they'll ask him one little thing, and he'll have to go into the whole detail of what went on. They might be asking him if he drank enough water. Well, here goes the story. lol. The anesthesiologist came in before his op and was explaining to him what was going to go on, well, he is a little hard hearing because of the type of place he worked in. He goes on to tell her how his doctor was very impressed with her, and how great she was in her type of work. She just grinned and said "Oh, that's wonderful". It's not his age people, he's been doing this forever. :) Well when he found out she wasn't the impressive doctor, he was sooo embarassed. He was really buttering her up.... thinking she was the assistant to the doctor who is renowned for working with cancer patients. She apparently does great work as in getting rid of the infections and whatever, one of the best, if not the only one in our state who does her type of work.

So I don't know how many times, I just looked at the floor and let him go on when it had nothing to do with what the staff was asking about or needed to know. I just thank the Lord that they were all patient and just stood around while he told his story over and over. :) Gotta love him.
